As long as things makes sense and no one is being obviously “taken advantage of” it’s all good #IMO
Gotta make a living and things don’t pay for themselves. It isn’t charity work.
Let’s talk about some of the things SOME landlords and property owners say or do to get away with certain things or maybe “off the hook.“
Things fluctuate here a lot. Things do “go up”, but there’s lots of programs, rebates, tax exceptions, etc. It all depends on the situation, property size, amount of tenants, and the way the owner is being taxed and how much they’re paying for their assets, repairs, etc.
For example. If a property owner makes a bad buy and loses money during a flip or Reno. Then the property runs smoothly, has great tenants, and starts to see a sudden MASSIVE increase in profit, would it not be fair to go down a bit instead of up? It’s not up to the tenants to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a poor business decision.
However, one needs to turn profit and people can choose where they live and how much they pay.
Property management is a rough game and very high risk, high reward. If you land the right one you can bring in some serious cash – especially if one does it right.
Should property and rental prices be going up or down?
Actually, the housing market is doing better than it ever was and there’s TONS of Competitive pricing atm…. Things should be getting cheaper, not more expensive.
When discussing rent and renting specifically. Business going up and “cost of living/business” is an excuse I see these BUSINESS types hide behind constantly.
Housing families isn’t just business… It’s partially a public service Round these parts…
Then again, I know landlords who get bones when they do favor…
Works both ways I suppose.
A reasonable and respectful Landlord/Property owner who includes things (and services them) such as washing machines, Wi-Fi, Good source of heat and cooling, etc- at a reasonable cost should be respected and if there is a mutually beneficial relationship both the landlord and the tenant can both win! As long as there’s no gouging or dirty business going on… Far too often we see these “toxic” tenant/owner relationships and it’s far too prominent in this general area.
A good/fair ACCEPTABLE deal that builds trust and respect. That is what is needed in all of these situations! Having the third party via “Rentalsmen” is supposed to enforce this type of ideology… However, I find it quite the opposite and they create this odd kind of buffer between landlord and tenant
Kind of like an “Ask Mommy, Ask Daddy…” Type of domestic relationship 🤷♂️
It it all really comes down to the individuals you have renting to you and the individuals who are doing the renting.
If the landlord’s hasn’t had anything besides BAD experiences for a long stretch; well, they’re obviously going to be hesitant to cut anyone in any favors .
That being said, I’m sure we’ve all seen some of these “Nice, Clean, LIVEABLE” places… Unreal what some people try and pass off. I used to work for a little company fulfilling NB housing contracts at their properties. Man! Some of the horrors I seen are indescribable 😬☣️🧫
I’m the type of tenant who makes sure lights aren’t running, I’m not burning out your pump, not letting people destroy the yard, leave cigarette butts lying around, and always keep an eye on the property even if it isn’t within my best interest. All the general stupidity property owners see ALL the time around urban environments.
(Until I’m given a reason to not give that level of respect)
To be honest I’m pretty sure that level of respect mostly came from working that job and seeing what I did.
Oh, and how mama raised me obviously.
It’s getting dangerous to be a landlord / property manager.
It’s risky business if you don’t have the money – Sometimes it’s risky even if you do.
And nowadays with PC culture you have people quoting all these ridiculous bylaws that only exist in fairy tale land… It can get pretty ridiculous I would imagine!
Although it’s a good business, it is a scary business – literally having STRAMGEES living in some of your most valuable POSSESSIONS
I imagine it’s as lucrative and exciting, as it is terrifying and disappointing at times. Surely, there’s many heartaches and hardships!
So, here’s to all the great landlords! Who don’t gouge and take care of their tenants, the ones who treat people, like people.
And to the tenants who pay their dues, don’t disrespect other people’s property, and adhere to agreements respectfully.
